He was trying to sleep, but couldn't because his feet were cold and he was always thinking 'Should I stay or should I go?'.

There was a big, strong monster living inside his room. It was an atrocious beast covered in dark fur and red eyes that slept most of the time. From time to time it would let out a deep growl in his sleep, when it was turning over or when it was about to wake up. When awake, it would want to play with him all the time, so it would not let him go out of the room.
He was a skinny young man, with no strength at all. At first, he was afraid of the monster, and to leave the room without its permission would mean a terrible outcome. Or so he had imagined. He couldn't know, because since the monster appeared he actually never left the room. It wouldn't let him. Every time he would grab the door knob, the monster would run over him and close it. Then, it would carry him onto the bed and make him read it a story, or just play childish games, until one of them would fall asleep. The young man missed his friends, and all the things he used to do. But the time passed, and with it, winter arrived. The young man soon forgot all about the things and people he loved. With the cold, the room turned out to be gelid fortress, but the monster did not seem to be cold. One day, when the monster was sleeping but the young man couldn't, for he was very cold, he drawn near its body. It was warm. He laid down his head on the monsters' body and, finally, fell asleep. Eventually, he started to enjoy the company of the monster and its warmth. As the time passed, they began to sleep for longer then before. Days and weeks at first, months even. Years past, and they still slept. On the beginning of another winter, many years later, they woke to read a story about knights and dragons. When the story was finished, they went to sleep and never woke up. |
