Three months have passed since he had written anything. Yet, he still had nothing to tell.

Now that he was almost leaving, he began to ask himself if going was the right choice.
He was not sure anymore. Months have passed. I have done nothing useful. I am a disgraceful piece of nothingness.
All the friends he thought to have were long gone. He was alone now.
And soon, he would be alone far away. He felt he was slowly marching to his own death. And aren't we all?
Humanity was lost because everyone stopped caring.
A month that felt like a whole year. The days growing colder, grayer. And he was growing older and older.
Outside, the fireworks announced that a cycle had come to an end. No matter how hard he tried, he still felt incomplete somehow. He did not know what he was doing wrong and, looking back, he did not know what he had done right either. So he just lay in bed and cried.
'What is this light?', he thought as he regained consciousness. 'Is it the sun?'
He felt numb. Slowly, his senses started to tell him something else: he felt nothing, just a sensation of tiredness as a whole. Strangely, he could not feel his body as well. He could not remember where he was, either, or why he was there. Neither what was he doing just the moment before, or what he was supposed to do. He realized he did not know what day it was, or if it was night or day for all that mattered. All he knew was that he was somewhere, and there was a light, a strong light directly pointing at his eyes. Suddenly, somehow, he understood his eyes were closed. He tried to open them, but could not. He forced them to open, but his eyelids did not move. He rose the hands which he could not feel, and he forced them open, and then he saw. There was a man that looked remarkably like him lying down upon a surgery table, surrounded by doctors and nurses, with a tube inside his mouth, and his chest cut open. There was blood on a doctor's gloves, and another was doing something inside him. Finally, he spotted the light that shone upon his eyes: a big-armed lamp with a bright white fluorescent light was aimed right into his eyes. Then, he tried to scream, he tried to tell the doctors to move the light from his eyes. Everything was silent, however. He could not hear a sound, not even his own voice. And the others could not hear him either. He could do nothing but wait. So he waited. |
